May has arrived in Fiji, and little by little, the atmosphere begins to change.
Although Fiji is known for its warm tropical climate throughout the year, May marks the beginning of a more comfortable and refreshing season. The days are still pleasantly warm, but the mornings and evenings start to feel cooler, creating the perfect balance for both travelers and locals.
In Fiji, May is considered the beginning of the dry season, and it is also when the tourism season gradually becomes busier.
As someone living in Fiji, I personally feel that May is one of the most enjoyable times of the year.
Weather and Temperature in Fiji in May
The average temperature in Fiji during May ranges from around 21°C to 28°C (70°F to 82°F).
During the daytime, the weather is warm enough for light clothing and beach days, while mornings and evenings can feel cooler, especially near the ocean or in outdoor areas. Bringing a light jacket or long sleeves is highly recommended.
May also brings a noticeable change in the weather.
As Fiji transitions from the wet season into the dry season, the humidity becomes milder and the days often feel fresher and more comfortable.
While occasional tropical showers can still happen, visitors can also enjoy clearer skies, beautiful sunsets, and ideal conditions for outdoor activities, island hopping, and water sports.
Sunrise and Sunset in Fiji in May
In May, the sun usually rises around 6:20 AM and sets between 5:40 PM and 5:50 PM.
Compared to summer in countries like Japan or Australia, the days may feel slightly shorter, but the evenings in Fiji have a peaceful atmosphere that makes sunsets feel slow and relaxing.
As the sky gradually changes color in the late afternoon, it becomes one of the most beautiful times of the day.
A Tropical Destination with a Cooler Side
Many people imagine Fiji as a destination that is hot all year round.
While the tropical warmth remains, May is also the beginning of Fiji’s cooler season.
Especially during early mornings, evenings, or windy days, the temperature can feel surprisingly refreshing.
If you are planning to visit Fiji during this time, packing a light sweater or long-sleeved clothing is a good idea.
A Wonderful Time to Experience Fiji
From relaxing on the beach to exploring local markets and enjoying island adventures, May is one of the best times to experience Fiji’s natural beauty and laid-back lifestyle.
As the dry season slowly approaches, Fiji becomes even more comfortable and peaceful.
