A Morning Walk Around Port Denarau Marina with a Coffee in Hand
Share
I had a little free time one morning, so I decided to take a walk around Port Denarau Marina.
Located along the waterfront, the marina is home to restaurants, shops, and the ferry terminal where travelers depart for Fiji’s beautiful outer islands.
I grabbed a coffee from one of my favorite coffee stands and took a slow walk by the water. Even without any special plans, it’s the kind of place that instantly makes you feel refreshed.

The coffee stand I often visit is located right in front of a bus stop, so it’s usually quite busy.
On this particular morning, there was only one staff member handling both the register and making drinks. She looked incredibly busy, yet she still greeted everyone with a warm “Bula!” and a smile.
It’s those small moments that remind me of the warmth and friendliness that Fiji is known for.

It was just before 10 a.m.
Although Fiji has entered its cooler season, the sun is still strong during the day. The mornings and evenings have become more comfortable, but standing in direct sunlight still feels intense enough that sunglasses remain a daily essential.
Around the ferry terminal, there were plenty of people waiting for their departures.
Some relaxed under umbrellas in the shade while others chatted with family and friends before heading off on their adventures.

There were travelers heading to the islands, people joining day tours, and families beginning their holidays.
Watching them come and go always makes me think, “Maybe it’s time for another island trip.”

After all, Fiji’s islands are home to some of the most beautiful waters in the world.
Before heading home, I stopped by one of my favorite stores, Rise Beyond the Reef.

The organization works with women in rural Fijian communities, creating opportunities for employment and income through beautifully handcrafted products.
The shop is filled with bags, accessories, and handmade goods, and while I own a few pieces myself, it’s their mission and community impact that inspire me the most.

I didn’t buy anything this time—just a little window shopping.
But honestly, that was enough.
A coffee in hand, a walk along the marina, a few moments browsing through local shops.
Nothing extraordinary.
Yet the sea breeze, the sunshine, and the relaxed pace of the morning reminded me once again why I love living in Fiji.
Sometimes, all it takes is a quiet moment by the water to think,
“Fiji really is a special place.”
And today was one of those mornings.
Sometimes it’s the simplest moments that stay with us the longest.
For me, it was a quiet walk by the marina with a coffee in hand.
What was your favorite moment today?
