Last weekend, we visited Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park, Fiji's very first national park.
It was our first time visiting, and we discovered that the park offers four different walking trails. Since we were exploring with young children, we chose the shortest route.
Before arriving, I imagined we would simply be walking across sand dunes. But the experience turned out to be so much more.
The trail took us through lush tropical forest, up gentle hills with breathtaking views, across soft sand dunes, and finally along a beautiful stretch of coastline.
Each part of the walk revealed a different side of Fiji's natural beauty.
The highlight was reaching the hilltop lookout.
From there, we could see the endless blue ocean while listening to nothing but birds singing and waves crashing below. With the fresh breeze blowing through, it was one of those moments that made you stop and simply take it all in.
We noticed many hikers on the longer trails carrying walking sticks made from tree branches, so those routes are probably much more challenging. Even the shortest trail had a few climbs, making it an enjoyable walk without being too difficult for families.
The beach beside the dunes was crystal clear, yet the waves were surprisingly powerful, creating a dramatic contrast between the calm scenery and the sound of the ocean.
Forest, hills, sand dunes, and the sea—all in one walk.
It was a wonderful place to experience several of Fiji's landscapes in a single visit.
We've also uploaded a short video from our walk on YouTube. If you'd like to experience the scenery and atmosphere for yourself, be sure to watch it as well.
